Theta Upsilon Lambda (TUL) Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded on January 6, 1966 in Fort Wayne, Indiana by 11 captivating Alphamen who had all been initiated into the Fraternity while undergraduates at various colleges throughout the United States. These men were the leaders, educators, activists, and voice for the local African-American community at that time. In fact, 6 of the 11 Founders were Doctors of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Education, making TUL one of the most illustrious chapters within the District of Indiana.
The founders believed that the Fraternity's contributions in providing leadership, education, service, and advocacy would forever positively impact the Greater Fort Wayne Community. Thus, they embarked upon a mission of uplift, enlightenment, and action that withstood the test of time and continues on yet today.
Armed with the true spirit of Alpha, TUL has been the architect of many successful events and programs such as Alpha Tyme youth mentorship program for boys ages 11-14; the Black Leadership Summit which brings together community leaders in hopes of building solidarity, excellence, and commitment; and the Alpha Phi Alpha Beautillion which is a rites of passage and college preparatory program for high school juniors and seniors. Additionally, the chapter annually facilitates the following national programs of the Fraternity: Go To High School, Go To College; A Voteless People is a Hopeless People; March for Babies; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Project Alpha; as well as hosts a Black & Gold Scholarship Ball which awards a college scholarship of $2,000 each year to a deserving local student.
It is on this premise that TUL continues to uphold the great legacy which was set before them by the Jewels of the Fraternity and the 11 Chapter Founders. It is our aim to exemplify greatness and distinction at all times. Refusing to be labeled by the majority, stopped by social barriers, or hindered by ignorance, the brethren of TUL endeavor to live peaceably with all, destroy injustices throughout the world, and overcome all obstacles through perseverance, faith, fortitude, and common brotherhood. First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All!
